You’re done with classes for the week. Time to celebrate! Oktoberfest 2012 started in Munich, Germany on September 22 and ends on October 7th. You can join the fun this weekend. Celebrate Hyde Park Oktoberfest is a free, public, family-friendly event taking place this Saturday and Sunday on 53rd Street between Dorchester and Kimbark avenues. There will be music, food, beer, retail vendors, a Children’s Book Fair, and children’s activities (pony rides, face painting, petting zoo!). This is the 3d annual festival. It is sponsored by the Hyde Park Vitality Committee, including the University of Chicago. Other happenings in Hyde Park include the annual Used Book Sale and Doc Films is starting their Miyazaki Fridays fall fest with Porco Rosso. View the Doc Films Autumn 2012 calendar here.
